Opet, which is the leader in lube oil sector, controls its warehouses with StockBarPlus.

Opet Lube Oil Manufacturing Co., which is confirmed by respectable worldwide engine manufacturers like MAN, Volvo, Mercedes Benz and Ford, manufactures 30 thousands of tons of lube oil each year with a single shift in its facilities existing in Çiğli/İzmir.


Opet Lube Oil Manufacturing Co., which is confirmed by respectable worldwide engine manufacturers like MAN, Volvo, Mercedes Benz and Ford, manufactures 30 thousands of tons of lube oil each year with a single shift in its facilities existing in Çiğli/İzmir. It started StokBar project of Univera in which Univera has many references in warehouse and inventory management to deliver the right product to the right customer and to achieve success in FIFO and LIFO.

The project was started in August 2006 to use the warehouse more efficiently by eliminating shipment errors and the errors caused by manual entries, ensuring product tracking, completing all operations via handheld terminals with barcode and transferring the created data to SAP instantly.

Barcodes were printed on cans with Ink Jet, labels for barrels, pallets and parcels were formed and prepared, wireless substructure was installed, software and system analyses were completed, SAP integration was completed, the system and the process were tested and live practice was started in a short time like 6 months. The efforts like receiving Ink Jet coding devices and starting them were included in this period. The project was completed when the system was put into use on 1st of February, 2007.

The system in which all stock transactions is run as integrated with SAP accelerates shipment and locations and products are tracked based on their batches. Thus, it is known exactly where each product is and on which pallet. Now, warehouse personnel are working more actively and efficiently because products are defined with pallet labels at the exit of the manufacturing and they are transferred to the warehouse on pallets. Thus, work of the office personnel is shared by the warehouse personnel.

Checks on shipments and product tracking were not sufficient and all stock transactions were conducted manually before the project and this caused many troubles and errors. As a result, the warehouse could not be used efficiently and effectively. The system eliminated such troubles and now, the warehouse is managed more actively and efficiently.

5 units of Symbol MC 9060G handheld terminals, Symbol WS 2000 and AP 300 wireless network products, 2 units of Zebra Z6M A5-size label printer and Zebra QL 420 portable label printer were employed in the project.

StokbarPlus was started to be run with 5 handheld terminal users and 5 PC users in total existing in the factory and in the warehouse existing in separate locations. It ensures control at the entry and exit and moreover, it allows product tracking by indicating each product’s location exactly. Because each product can be tracked in the warehouse, the shipped products with customer’s name, date and lot number can also be tracked.

Deniz Araser, who was in cooperation with us during the project, also said that “StokBarPlus changed everything and this change made us gain many things. This system allowed us using our warehouse more efficiently and we eliminated errors in shipments. We started FIFO application. All entries and exits were started to be monitored on electronic media. Now, we enjoy the comfort because products are defined with pallet labels at the exit of the manufacturing and they are transferred to the warehouse on pallets.

Expiration date in industrial lube oils is very important for us. Tracking shelf life is vital for us and this system satisfies this need. The expired products are taken out of the warehouse on time seamlessly by controlling FIFO and LOT numbers. The fact that the system runs as integrated with SAP for all stock transactions is another important point for us. Some of work of the office personnel was transferred to the handheld terminal users. In addition, the control is improved because all stock transactions are performed on both of the systems at the same time. All phases were studied in detail. As a result of this detailed feasibility, any chaos or troubles were not experienced.

Because the warehouse is run by an electronic and online system, the supplied goods are entered via barcode. Previously, the products were entered into the stocks by cooperation of administrative financial affairs and purchase departments. After Stokbar was put into use, all stock transactions were started to be performed by the warehouse personnel in the warehouse.

Thus, now, the control was centralized and no one can intervene in the stocks with the exception of the shipment personnel. Time is saved because even if a warehouse employee disturbs a pallet, he can enter this to the system by using his handheld and portable printer. Previously, mixed pallet barcodes required visiting the office. I would like to emphasize that we had worked very hard during day and night until the project was put into use.
